There are some really good tips in the training video series that I have posted. Especially the annoying iheartheli series and the Nightflyyer 9 tips video.

There are really two things to take away from the videos; what to try and how to try. Up until a couple of weeks ago I was doing reasonably good side in circuits. I will not call them lazy eights as I was going back and forth along the same line. I couldn't move past that as I felt that my turns were neither smooth nor controlled. After watching episode 5 of the iheartheli series I found out what I was doing wrong. I was not turning in such a way as to have the tail following the helicopter through the turn. Then this weekend I started paying more attention to what I was doing that seemed to be helping and it seems that I am keeping the tail a little higher than the heli through some of the turn. I found that my turns, though tonnes better, were still not as controlled as I would like. I would say that my turns were often turning out a little like stall turns rather than the flat slow controlled turns that I was intending to do. So I went back and watched e5 of the iheartheli series and the Nightflyyer 9 tips video and I now see that they recommend that you keep the tail higher through the entire turn. I had forgotten that, which means that I had got it by accident, and now I know what I need to work on next. I need to work on keeping the tail up and the disc level aileron wise which means I need to counteract the rudder-cyclic interaction throughout the whole turn all while trying to maintain a constant altitude.

I agree with Randy, just take it outside and get it two or three mistakes high and like I told Darwin last year just fly the damb thing. As soon as you start to over think it your in trouble, if you think wrong then input wrong then think to fix that mistake, that's many steps and if you have a brain fart in there you're done for. Just take it up comfortably high and knock your sticks around to see what she can do. You can't learn how to correct if you first of all never get it out of shape. I quite often fly high and just jam my sticks to see what the result is cause I know I am high enough to bail out.

I agree with Randy and Adam. As a newbie myself I find the best way to learn is just get out there and do it.
I do like Adam's perspective on flying high and giving yourself lots of room to recover. Last year I was so afraid to crash that I barely flew at all. I buddy boxed with Randy a bit. This year I'm going to take the attitude, if I crash, I crash and then fix it.

It's like skiing, if you don't fall down, you're not trying hard enough :)

Everyone learns differently. Although I learn hands on I also need to understand the why and how of it for it to really sink in. I especially need to understand if at first I don't succeed. In this case I finally had something click but I still seem to be stuck moving on to the next level. I think I have it figured out and I am hitting the sim right after I finish here. This article helped me understand what kinda clicked but I wasn't quite understanding. It sorta worked but any time I thought about what to do I lost it.

Yup that was it. Now I need to get a lot of practice to get it right.
